Chen Shuhe Yue 陈纾禾
Chen Shuhe Yue (Yue Chen) is a composer, soprano, and interdisciplinary artist based in New York. Her innovative practice encompasses acoustic instrumental music, new music theater, electroacoustic music, multimedia performance, and sound installations, with a particular interest in interdisciplinary collaboration. Yue’s works have been internationally recognized, earning accolades such as the Ravel Composition Prize and the Manhattan String Quartet Prize.
Yue’s compositions have been performed worldwide by notable ensembles including the Jack Quartet, PHACE Ensemble, Windscape, and ICE, and featured at prominent festivals such as the Conservatoire Américain de Fontainebleau (France), MultiPhonics Festival (Germany), Aranya Theater Festival (China), Vienna Summer Music Festival (Austria), and Avignon Festival (France).
As a soprano, Yue was classically trained and has expanded her repertoire into contemporary and experimental vocal performance, including improvisational theater works and interactive operatic projects. Her performing credits feature roles in operas such as Così Fan Tutte, The Magic Flute, and La Bohème, alongside contemporary pieces like Sofia Ouyang’s operetta Or Almost, I Seem and Bahar Royaee’s opera Longing Lights. Her multidisciplinary approach has led her to participate in diverse global art projects spanning more than 20 countries, including street installations, performance art, and immersive theater.
Yue holds a Bachelor's degree in Opera Acting from The Central Academy of Drama in Beijing and a Master's degree in Composition from Mannes School of Music. She is currently pursuing her Doctor of Musical Arts (D.M.A.) in composition at the Manhattan School of Music under the guidance of Reiko Füting and David Adamcyk.
In 2023, Yue co-founded Chaospace, a nonprofit artist organization based in New York, where she currently directs the DramaEtMusica Performance Series, focusing on cross-disciplinary performances.
